5 Ways to Make Your Day Cheerful with Your Kids

Proverbs 17:22 says that when you are cheerful — an attitude of the heart — it is a “good medicine”. I really like this phrase. Generally, I am a very cheerful person. I am optimistic and happy, with a love for laughter.

When my son was young, I would have my “sidekick” right beside me. My wife, Ginger, and I would ask him silly questions that invoked silly responses. We would use him to pull harmless pranks and would have both fun real-life activities, and adventures filled with imagination.

So, want to spice up your day? Here’s a quick list to empower you to add some smiles.

1. Ask children some great questions.

Stop for a moment and have fun with this. Start with “How was your day” and then move to some more creative stuff.

Perhaps ask things like:

  • “Is there anything we can do together today?”
  • “How do you think peanut butter is made?”
  • “What does daddy do at work?”
  • “Why does the Tooth Fairy take your teeth when you lose them?”

2. Run a race
Set some goal point, give them a head-start and RUN! Remember, it’s about building memories and self-esteem —  and not about YOU winning!    😉

3. Read a story
You can make a great connection with our kids when you read to them. Pick something fun and entertaining. The put some emotion into it. Do funny voices, or have them do some.

4. Look up famous places or places you have lived on Google Earth, or Google Maps.
I know this sounds geeky, but it can be a great adventure for kids who are the right age-group. Don’t wear out your time with this one, just make some connections. Suggestions would be places like the Grand Canyon, Empire State Building, or perhaps a camp ground your family has visited.

5. Play a game
Get out of the routine by playing cards, ping pong, or croquet. You may even want to invent your own board game or card game.

HAVE FUN! Enjoy the gift of your family!

Touchdown and Interceptions the Unwavering Decisions we Make

The inconsistency of the NFL Referees has once again become the conversations of this week. (Pittsburg Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers) And though I’m those who are on the fields are trying to do their best, something is surely lacking.

We know what this feels like, right? If you have a chance, check out the first chapter of the Book of James in the Bible.

Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. ~ James 1:8

Communion ON THE MOON

It is well documented that 20 years after Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon that on of the first things done by Buzz Aldrin was to participate in a private and personal communion service.

And is was extremely controversial. A famous atheist at the time, Madeline Murray O’hare was suing NASA over Bible reading from Apollo 8. So the radio went silent around the world while Mr. Aldrin had his sacred moments.

Holy Communion
The Lord’s Supper, consisting of the elements –bread and the fruit of the vine– is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:4 [KJV/NIV]), a memorial of his suffering and death (1 Corinthians 11:26 [KJV/NIV]), and a prophecy of His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26 [KJV/NIV]), and is enjoined on all believers “till He come!”

Tribute to Neil Armstrong

This is a wonderful tribute to Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. Neil lived from August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012. He is famously known for his first words, “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Consumed: Heart of Worship

ConsumedWhen we come together in the corporate sense to a church service, we must remember — It is not made up of AUDIENCE, PERFORMERS, and DIRECTORS. It is not a show and was never meant to be a show.

We get it wrong so often, WE are not the AUDIENCE, God is!

Here are a few bullet points from today’s talk on WORSHIP.

When I think about WHO GOD IS AND WHAT HE’s Done?

  • I have only ONE RESPONSE.
  • That response is not just 20 minutes of song, but my very life!

MY ONLY REASONABLE RESPONSE IS WORSHIP

Hebrews 12:28-29 …since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe . . .

Thoughts: When is the last time you’ve been speechless before the presence of God? When you have been overwhelmed by His presence — because He is so big and so good and so loving and so holy and so pure and so righteous?

Remember, God gives someone righteousness who is like filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6) He (GOD) is our AUDIENCE of ONE and we worship Him with REVERENCE AND AWE!

. . . for our God is a consuming fire.  Hebrews 12:28-29
