RevTim Podcast -112- (Heather and Alli)

Here’s a slight departure from the regular RevTim Podcast format and some fun that I’d like to share with you. Heather, a friend of ours who just got married and Alli, my future daughter-in-law,  were together at a gathering just before the New Year. They share some tips in wedding planning.

A Baby Funny

My wife and I – both graduate students – recently celebrated the
arrival of our first child. At my wife’s insistence, we had paid our
entire medical bill and were now worried about meeting other payments.

We
were discussing our sad financial situation one evening when our son
demanded a diaper change. As my wife leaned over the baby’s crib, I
heard her mutter, “The only thing in the house that’s paid for, and it
leaks.”

Bringing Them Together

You really see a glimpse of who the apostle Paul is here in Philemon. This is personal! It’s a personal letter to his buddy Philemon, who is kind of like a nephew and co-worker with him for the cause of Jesus. Here in this passage, Onesimus, who was Philemon’s slave, has broken off the relationship with Philemon.

Then Philemon receives this “letter”. Paul is stating two things: 1) Onesimus has become a believer in Jesus, and 2) Paul is asking Philemon to restore his relationship or to reconcile his connection to the man he is probably bitter against.

Here’s a great truth, there is no one worthy of being written off in this world when it comes to the love of Jesus. Paul recognized it and the grace of Jesus has brought Onesimus into the family of believers.

Philemon 1:8-10 (NLT) 8 That is why I am boldly asking a favor of you. I could demand it in the name of Christ because it is the right thing for you to do, 9 but because of our love, I prefer just to ask you. So take this as a request from your friend Paul, an old man, now in prison for the sake of Christ Jesus. 10 My plea is that you show kindness to Onesimus. I think of him as my own son because he became a believer as a result of my ministry here in prison.

Is there someone you could forgive today? Or are there two people who you could help to reconcile their differences? Put that faith in action!!

Are You Praying for Someone?

1 Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT)
3 As we talk to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and your continual anticipation of the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I recently got a note from a friend who was really going through a time of worry about the unknown. Actually, the past tense that I just used applies to only one of these “worries.” Several more are moving forward in parallel with her life even as this blog entry goes out today.

I have been praying for her strength and help from God, and THAT is why I mention this verse. We should not wait for “concerns” or “requests” when it comes to praying for someone. I have a list of people I pray for constantly. They are my friends and family. I know that God has wonderful help for them and has blessings for their lives.

So… who are you praying for today? Take time and mention some names to the Lord, they may just need that kind of strength.
